John Hultman : \ Peaks " and Low Surface Brightness

چکیده

It has been proposed that low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies may form in low density regions as a result of certain statistical properties of the density eld (Hooman et al. 1992). This idea is investigated with direct Hydrodynamical simulations, using a combined Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and gravitational tree method. It is found that although more mass is collected around a density peak in a void region, compared to a peak of equal height in region of average background density , the resulting galactic disk is not of LSB type.

The First Co Map of a Low Surface Brightness Galaxy

Using the Owens Valley Radio Observatory Millimeter-Wavelength Array (OVRO) we have obtained the first CO map of a low surface brightness (LSB) galaxy. The studied galaxy, UGC 01922, was chosen for these observations because both of its previous CO detection with the IRAM 30m telescope and its classification as a Malin 1 ‘cousin’ – an LSB galaxy with MHI ≥ 10 10 M⊙. The OVRO map detected approx...

How Concentrated Are The Haloes Of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies In The Cold Dark Matter Model?

We investigate whether a correlation exists between the concentration (2̧00) and spin (λ) parameters of dark matter haloes forming in ΛCDM N-body simulations. In particular, we focus on haloes with virial masses in the range 10 6 Mvir/h M⊙ 6 2×10 , characteristic of the hosts of Low Surface Brightness (LSB) and High Surface Brightness (HSB) galaxies. Our analysis demonstrates that 2̧00 and λ are ...

New shell radio supernova remnant G 16 . 2 − 2 . 7

The extended radio source G16.2−2.7 is detected as a new previously uncataloged Galactic supernova remnant. Its non-thermal radio spectrum has spectral index α = −0.51, with Sν(1GHz) = 2.08 Jy, as being measured with the RATAN-600 radio telescope. The NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) map at 1.4 GHz shows a shelllike bilateral structure. The similar smoothed image from the Effelsberg survey at 2.7 GHz...

The HI Content and Extent of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies – Could LSB Galaxies be Responsible for Damped Ly - α Absorption ?

Low surface brightness galaxies, those galaxies with a central surface brightness at least one magnitude fainter than the night sky, are often not included in discussions of extragalactic gas at z < 0.1. In this paper we review many of the properties of low surface brightness galaxies, including recent studies which indicate low surface brightness systems may contribute far more to the local HI...

The Formation of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies

The formation of low surface brightness galaxies is an unavoidable prediction of any hierarchical clustering scenario. In these models, low surface brightness galaxies form at late times from small initial overdensities, and make up most of the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function. Because there are tremendous observational biases against finding low surface brightness galaxies, the obse...
